There is a lot of noise out there in the world lately, isn’t there? Someone makes a statement, posts a tweet, shares a status, and then another person reacts and reposts does, and someone else comments. Meanwhile, the rest of us are just trying to make sense out of the whole thing. What do we possibly do with controversy after controversy, press conference after press conference, and people being offended all over the place?

Better yet, what should we do? Should we be angry and outraged, or should we not even worry about it? It seems like no matter what we do and how we act, it never seems right. With all this back and forth, it just makes me more confused.

All of this is why I have to go back to the basics. I really enjoy listening to a singer named Jeremy Camp. He has a lot of great songs. One of them I really like seems to be applicable during these very crazy times. The song is called “Give me Jesus” (you can watch the lyric video below). In this song, Jeremy quite simply says that no matter what is going on, “give me Jesus”. In the morning, give me Jesus; when I am alone, give me Jesus; when my life is over, give me Jesus.

How does this help us today? Simply put, no matter what is going on in the world (or in social media), give me Jesus. Why Jesus? Because it is only through Jesus that I will be able to make sense of the world. When everyone tells us to hate and be angry, Jesus tells us to love God and love others (Mark 12:30-31). When everyone tells us to seek power and personal glory, Jesus tells us to serve others (John 13). When everyone tells us to hold on to pain and don’t forgive, Jesus tells us to forgive others (Luke 17:3-4).

I don’t know how others do it, but when difficult things arise, I try to take a step back and honestly seek after Jesus. When I take the time to seek Him, a lot of times I come back to, “how can I love this person,” or “how can I seek to understand where they are coming from”? The more I can embrace this mindset, the more at peace I am at with my actions and reactions to things. And, the better father, son, and friend I can be to others. Just give me Jesus – He guides me.

As things continue to unfold around us in the world each and every day, I pray that you can seek after Jesus and let Him guide you.
