Unknown-1On Sunday, Patrick Dennis shared with us a message about conforming based on “The Lego Movie”.  If you missed the message you can watch it below.

The primary passage of scripture Patrick used was Romans 12:1-2 where Paul said, “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

A few questions to think about:

  1. What do you think Paul means to “present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God”?
  2. How have you conformed to the world?  Is all conforming to the world bad?
  3. How can we get a renewed mind?
  4. How is God’s will described?
  5. In what ways is God challenging you to think differently than you have been?

As we struggle to not conform to the world but be transformed by God, a few passages in the Bible stick out:

Conforming to what everyone else is doing is easy to do. But when we allow God to transform who we are, even though it can be difficult,  we end up better for it. Why? Because we are staying close to God and clinging to His  “good and acceptable and perfect” will, not ours. The bottom line is this: We all need to decide to either  base our beliefs upon what we experience and see around us, or base them upon God’s unchanging and inspired Word, the Bible.
