selmaAs the At the Movies series continues, Brett used the movie “Selma” to talk about our resolve.  As Christians do we resolve to trust in God or the ever-changing tides of the world?  If you missed it, you can watch it below or catch one of the rebroadcasts throughout the week.

Two passages Brett used are below. As a follow up to the message, take  few minutes to read over them.

2 Thessalonians 1:11-12 ESV

“To this end we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power, so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Psalm 20:7-8 ESV

“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. They collapse and fall, but we rise and stand upright.”

Questions to Ponder:

  1. When you encounter a tough situation, what do you tend to do first? Where do you turn?
  2. What does it mean to trust in the name of the Lord? What does that look like?
  3. How will trusting God help you rise and stand upright rather than fall?
  4. What happens when trust in God and stand for Him?  Why is that important (2 Thessalonians 1:12)

Instead of serving you and your own agenda, seek God and pray that that we can put our focus on making Jesus our priority….resolve to follow Christ, not the whim  and ways of the world.
