Our mission trip is in the Appalachian area of KY (which is one of the poorest areas in the country). It has alarmingly high rates of alcohol and drug addiction, high school dropouts, unemployment, physical and emotional abuse, and other problems. Our goal is to connect with and touch the lives of the impoverished people in the community. We really want to try and be God’s hands that work hard to rebuild their crumbling homes and his voice that speaks words of comfort, encouragement, and hope. About 50 of us went last year and it turned out to be a fantastic blessing for the people that went and the people that were served.
While there we help rebuild broken down homes and teach less experienced people how to do the work, but it’s a lot more than that. The team really connects and we do Bible studies and grow closer to God. There are a lot of fun things to do too (like swim, ice cream outings, and we even did some white water rafting last year!).
The costs cover pretty much everything including: Van rental, gas, outings, motel room, building materials, food and drinks. We also have a chef that comes with us and cooks delicious, but very inexpensive meals.
