God is Love (Chantilly Sermon)

Ephesians 3:18-19 CSB – I pray that you …may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the length and width, height and depth of God’s love, and to know Christ’s love that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God

Who Does God Love?

Luke 15:1-2 CSB – All the tax collectors and sinners were approaching to listen to him. ² And the Pharisees and scribes were complaining, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”

God loves the lost, the little and the unlikely

Romans 5:6 & 8 CSB – For while we were still helpless, at the right time, Christ died for the ungodly.  But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 

Romans 5:8 CSB – But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

God’s Love is Immutable

1 John 4:19 CSB – We love because he first loved us.

How Does God Love?

Revelation 1:5 CSB – [Jesus] loves us and has set us free from our sins by his blood, ⁶ and made us a kingdom, priests

1 John 4:9-10 CSB – God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his one and only Son into the world so that we might live through him. ¹⁰ Love consists in this: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. 

What Does God’s Love Mean?

1. “God is Love” means the definition of “love” is settled

Jesus said, No one has greater love than this: to lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13)

2. “God is love” means your worth is settled
3. “God is love” means God is pursuing you right now

Mercy is God’s forgiving love.
Grace is God’s undeserved love.
Peace is God’s comforting love.
God’s Will is God’s unerring love.
Providence is God’s caring love.
Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection is God’s proven love.
Sanctification is God’s nurturing love.
Heaven is God’s rewarding love.
Eternity is God’s unending love.
