Living with Christ Beyond Easter Sunday
April 21, 2025

“But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” – John 20:31
Easter celebrates the resurrection, but what happens after the Easter lilies fade and the special services conclude? John 20:31 provides the framework of what it means to be living for Christ beyond Easter.
The Purpose Beyond the Celebration
John tells us explicitly why he recorded Jesus’ life, including His miraculous signs and resurrection so that we “may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” This verse reminds us that following Christ isn’t merely about celebrating historical events but experiencing ongoing life through relationship with Christ.
Believing as a Continuous Action
In the original Greek, the word for “believe” in John 20:31 indicates continuous action—not just a one-time intellectual assent but an ongoing trust. Living with Christ means waking up each morning and consciously choosing to believe again. It means approaching each challenge, joy, and ordinary moment with the awareness that Jesus is who He claimed to be—the Son of God with authority over death itself.
“Life in His Name”
Living with Christ is a living far beyond just living. Jesus described this life as “abundant” (John 10:10)—rich, meaningful, and overflowing. Living with Christ means experiencing:
- Purpose: Understanding that your life has eternal significance
- Presence: Enjoying daily companionship with God through His Spirit
- Power: Accessing resurrection strength for life’s challenges
- Peace: Resting in the security of God’s love and sovereignty
Practical Ways to Continue Living with Christ
- Begin each day with Jesus. Before checking your phone or email in the morning, take time to recognize Christ is with you.
- Stay rooted in the Bible. John wrote his gospel so we might believe. Regular engagement with God’s Word keeps our faith vibrant.
- Practice resurrection living. Look for opportunities to bring life to dead situations—offering forgiveness, speaking hope, choosing joy in difficulty.
- Live in community. The disciples experienced the risen Christ together. We need each other to fully experience life in His name. Find different groups you ban be part of here.
- Share your story. John didn’t keep his encounters with Jesus private—he wrote them down for others. Your testimony of life in Christ might be exactly what someone else needs to hear.
The resurrection isn’t just history; it’s an invitation to a new way of living—every day, in every circumstance, living with Christ.
