Mary: Embracing Your Divine Purpose
August 18, 2025

When the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary with news that would forever change her life, he delivered a message that seemed impossible. She, a virgin, would conceive and bear the Son of God. The weight of this calling was extraordinary—not just the miraculous nature of it, but the social, personal, and spiritual implications that would follow.
What is striking about Mary’s response isn’t her initial fear or confusion, which would have been entirely natural. Rather, it’s her ultimate acceptance: “Let it be unto me according to your word.” In that moment, Mary took complete ownership of her divine calling, despite not fully understanding what lays ahead.
Mary’s YES
Mary’s “yes” wasn’t passive resignation—it was active faith. She could have focused on the obstacles: her young age, her unwed status, the potential shame from her community, or the unknown challenges of raising the Messiah. Instead, she chose to trust that God would equip her for what He had called her to do.
This same principle applies to our lives today. Often, we’re presented with opportunities or callings that seem beyond our capabilities. Whether it’s a career change, a ministry opportunity, starting a family, or pursuing a dream that feels too big, we can learn from Mary’s example of ownership.
Taking ownership of our calling means moving beyond “I can’t” to “I will trust God to make a way.” It means acknowledging our limitations while believing that God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness. Like Mary, we don’t need to see the entire path clearly before we take the first step.
Make no mistake, Mary’s journey wasn’t easy. She faced judgment, displacement, and ultimately watched her son die on a cross. Yet her initial “yes” sustained her through every challenge because it was rooted in faith rather than fear.
Conclusion
Today, whatever God is calling you to do, consider Mary’s example. Don’t wait until you feel completely ready or until every question is answered. Take ownership of your purpose with faith, knowing that the same God who equipped a young woman to bear the Savior of the world can equip you for whatever He’s calling you to do.
Your “yes” matters. Your obedience has purpose. Just like Mary’s.
