Welcome to week five in a series of blog posts taking us through the book, MORE. Let’s dive right in to discovering our unique identity in this life.

Start here | Prayer

God, I am excited about what I have learned so far in this series. Thank You for giving us our primary calling. Help me to discover now how you have uniquely wired me. As I hear what You are teaching me on Sunday morning, what I am studying during the week and what I am reading in the book; help me to begin to see with clarity what my unique identity is. Thank you for loving me and creating me unique. In Jesus’ Name, amen.

Scripture |

“God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:8-10 NLT

“And yet, O Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay, and you are the potter. We all are formed by your hand.” Isaiah 64:8 NLT

“You formed me with your hands; you made me, yet now you completely destroy me. Remember that you made me from dust – will you turn me back to dust so soon? You guided my conception and formed me in the womb.” Job 10:8-10 NLT

Observations |

Read through each of the verses listed above. Take a few minutes and write down 3-5 observations you have from those passages. What thoughts come to mind? Now write down one sentence that summarizes all of them for you.

What is one thing that makes you unique? A talent, strength, gift? Some of us may share similar gifts and strengths, but you express them uniquely.

How does it make you feel to know that the God of the universe created you in a unique way and that there is no one else exactly like you?

What parts of that understanding excite you? What parts scare you?

The author of MORE says that our unique identity is something that we can’t shut off in our life. What traits do you see that seem to show up in your life all the time? (For instance; action-oriented, thoughtful, compassionate, dominant, leader, passive, etc.)

What things have you discovered about yourself so far in this journey through MORE?

Application |

Armed with what you now know, that you are uniquely made by God, what do you need to do to begin putting that knowledge into action?

Write down one step you will take this week to begin putting words to your unique identity.

Bounce some of what you are discovering about yourself off of someone you trust. Maybe a close friend, spouse, parent, neighbor, etc. Ask them if they would affirm the words you are using to describe yourself and if they see those same traits in you. Often times the clues to our unique identity are right there in front of us, clear and obvious to a few others who see strong traits in us.

Next Steps |

Here is a short list of practical next steps you can take as we walk this path together.
