Andrew: Why Go and Share Immediately
June 16, 2025
In John 1:41, we read about a powerful moment that changed not only one person’s life, but arguably the course of history. In John 1:41, it says, “He first found his own brother Simon and told him, “We have found the Messiah” These simple words reveal a profound truth about what happens when we truly encounter Jesus Christ.
Early in John 1, Andrew had just met Jesus. He had spent time with Him, heard His voice, and experienced something extraordinary. But notice what happened next. Andrew didn’t just keep this life-changing discovery to himself. He didn’t wait for the perfect moment, craft the perfect speech, or attend evangelism training. The “first thing” he did was find his brother and share the incredible news.
This wasn’t a polished presentation or a theological debate. Andrew simply said, “We have found the Messiah.” He shared his genuine excitement about meeting the one Israel had been waiting for. His enthusiasm was contagious, and Peter immediately wanted to meet Jesus for himself.
Go and Share Immediately
Andrew’s example challenges us today to go and share immediately. When we experience God’s goodness—whether through answered prayer, spiritual breakthrough, or simply remembering the gospel’s power—do we naturally want to share it? Or do we keep it a secret?
Too often, we overcomplicate evangelism. We think we need seminary degrees, perfect theology, or flawless arguments. But Andrew shows us that the most powerful witness is often the simplest: telling others what Jesus has done for us. While people may try to argue with your doctrine, they can’t argue with your experience.
Consider the people in your life—family members, coworkers, neighbors, friends. Like Andrew with Peter, you might be the bridge that connects them to Jesus. Your experience about Christ’s impact on your life could be exactly what they need to hear. It could be life altering for them, too. For example, Andrew’s brother, Peter, went on to become a foundational leader of the early church, sharing the gospel to thousands. It all started because Andrew couldn’t keep quiet about meeting Jesus.
Conclusion
As you think about what it looks like to live on mission and live sent, the question isn’t whether you’re qualified to tell others about Jesus. The question is: Have you found Jesus as savior of your life? If so, make it the “first thing” you do is go and share immediately to those around you. God will use it for His glory and will change lives forever.
