Taking Action in Your Faith

Action

In the book of Joshua we hear about Rahab. When we first meet her in Joshua 2, she is a prostitute living in Jericho, a city marked for destruction by God. Her story is a powerful testimony of God’s grace and a great example how we can all take action in our faith.

actionIn Joshua 2:1 two Israelite spies secretly entered Jericho. And despite the King demanding Rahab turn any men she encountered over, she made a decision that changed her and her family’s life forever. Rahab chooses to hide the spies and help them escape despite the danger they were all in. Her actions weren’t just an act of kindness; they were a declaration of faith. She told the spies, “I know that the Lord has given you this land” (Joshua 2:9). Rahab had heard of God’s mighty deeds and recognized His power, choosing to align herself with Him rather than her own people.

Take Action

Rahab’s faith wasn’t passive. She acted on it, risking her life to protect God’s people. In return, she asked for protection for herself and her family when the Israelites would eventually conquer Jericho. The spies agreed, instructing her to hang a scarlet cord from her window as a sign. In Joshua 6, we see the fulfillment of this promise. As the walls of Jericho miraculously fall, Joshua commands that Rahab and her family be spared. Not only are they saved from destruction, but they are also welcomed into the Israelite community.

Rahab’s story reminds us that God’s grace extends to all, regardless of their past or social status. But it also shows how her faith and action made a history changing impact. See, because of what she did, this led to her inclusion in the lineage of Jesus Christ (Matthew 1:5), demonstrating how God can use anyone who puts their trust in Him and takes action.

Conclusion

Rahab’s story challenges us to action in our faith, even when it’s risky or goes against societal norms. It encourages us to trust in God’s power and promises, knowing that He can do all things, including redeeming our past and transform our future. As we reflect on Rahab’s story, take time to yourself

  1. How can take action in my faith? What can I do?
  2. Am I willing to take risks for God?

Use Rahab’s story an example of how God uses us in powerful ways when we take action in our faith. Take action today!
