Our Problem—Sin is Lethal
Romans 1:16-18 CSB – Paul sets us up by saying, “I am so proud of God’s grace!”
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, and also to the Greek.17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith, just as it is written: The righteous will live by faith
For God’s wrath is revealed from heaven against all godlessness and unrighteousness of people who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth,
James 1:15 CSB – …sin, and when sin is fully grown, it gives birth to death.
Romans 3:9ff CSB – both Jews and Greeks are all under sin, 10 as it is written:
There is no one righteous, not even one.
11 There is no one who understands;
there is no one who seeks God.
12 All have turned away;
all alike have become worthless.
There is no one who does what is good,
not even one.
Romans 3:13-14a CSB –
Their throat is an open grave;
they deceive with their tongues.
Vipers’ venom is under their lips.
14 Their mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.

the path of peace they have not known.

we all have turned to our own way;

Romans 6:23 CSB – For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 3:19-20 CSB – Now we know that whatever the law says, it speaks to those who are subject to the law, so that every mouth may be shut and the whole world may become subject to God’s judgment. 20 For no one will be justified in his sight by the works of the law, because the knowledge of sin comes through the law.
Romans 7:24 CSB – What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? 25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!
God’s Answer – God’s Grace is Sufficient
Romans 3:21 CSB – But now, apart from the law, the righteousness of God has been revealed, attested by the Law and the Prophets.
Romans 3:22-24 CSB – The righteousness of God is through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe…since there is no distinction. 23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God; 24 they are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
- Justice: Deserved Punishment
- Mercy: Exemption from Punishment
- Grace: Favor when Punishment is Deserved
Romans 3:26 CSB – God presented him to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so that he would be just and justify the one who has faith in Jesus.
Isaiah 64:6 CSB – All my righteousness is as filthy rags
Psalm 103:11-12 CSB – For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him.
12 As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He removed our wrongdoings from us.

Receive God’s Grace
Hebrews 2:3 CSB – how will we escape if we neglect such a great salvation?

Confess Jesus Publicly
Matthew 10:32 CSB – Jesus says, “Therefore, everyone who will acknowledge me before others, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven.
Acts 2:38 CSB – Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Acts 22:16 CSB – And now, why are you delaying? Get up and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on his name.’
