Exodus 20:4-6 NKJV – “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

What we Learn from the 2nd Commandment about How to Love Like Jesus

1) Exodus 19:21 and 33:20 make it clear that we are NEVER to look upon God

  • Exodus 19:21 NKJV – And the Lord said to Moses, “Go down and warn the people, lest they break through to gaze at the Lord, and many of them perish.
  • Exodus 33:20 NKJV – But He said, “You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live.”

2) Not a ritual but a relationship; we are inherently taught to “HEAR GOD”

3) Divided Efforts get no Movement!

Luke 9:23 NKJV – Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.
