Matthew 11:28-30 CSB – Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. All of you, take up My yoke and learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for yourselves. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.

Big Idea | Jesus wants to set us free from the burden of stuff!

Materialism is a disease which affects your entire body!

Joshua 7:1 CSB – The Israelites, however, were unfaithful regarding the things set apart for destruction. Achan son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of what was set apart, and the Lord’s anger burned against the Israelites.

Matthew 6:22, 23 CSB – The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. So if the light within you is darkness – how deep is that darkness!

Materialism dims our vision!

What good must I do to have eternal life?

Matthew 19:18, 19 CSB – ‘Which ones?’ he asked Him. Jesus answered: ‘Do not murder; do not commit adultery; do not steal; do not bear false witness; honor your father and your mother; and love your neighbor as yourself.’

Matthew 19:21 CSB – ‘If you want to be perfect,’ Jesus said to him, ‘go, sell your belongings and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.’

Matthew 19:22 CSB – When the young man heard that command, he went away grieving, because he had many possessions.

Material Possessions are Temporary and Unsatisfactory!

Matthew 6:19-21 CSB – Don’t collect for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rush destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But collect for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves don’t break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

2 Corinthians 4:18 CSB – So we do not focus on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Practice Generosity

Mark 12:43, 44 CSB – I assure you: this poor widow has put in more than all those giving to the temple treasury. For they all gave out of their surplus, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she possessed – all she had to live on.

Practice Gratitude

Deuteronomy 8:17, 18 CSB – You may say to yourself, ‘My power and my own ability have gained this wealth for me,’ but remember that the Lord your God gives you the power to gain wealth, in order to confirm His covenant He swore to your fathers.

Ephesians 5:20 CSB – Giving thanks always for everything to God the Father.
