Leaving A Lasting Legacy (Linton Hall Sermon)
August 10, 2025

You can leave a legacy that points people to Jesus and makes an impact for eternity.
Proverbs 22:6 CSB – Start a youth out on his way;
even when he grows old he will not depart from it.
Be Kind…Because Jesus was Kind
Colossians 3:12 CSB – Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and dearly loved, put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience,
Matthew 8:1-4 CSB – When he came down from the mountain, large crowds followed him. 2 Right away a man with leprosy came up and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”
3 Reaching out his hand, Jesus touched him, saying, “I am willing; be made clean.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. 4 Then Jesus told him, “See that you don’t tell anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”
Proverbs 22:6 CSB – Start a youth out on his way;
even when he grows old he will not depart from it.
Be Generous…Because Jesus was Generous
Matthew 22:36-40 CSB – “Teacher, which command in the law is the greatest?”
37 He said to him, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. 38 This is the greatest and most important command. 39 The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. 40 All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commands.”
Proverbs 3:9-10 CSB – Honor the Lord with your wealth,
with the firstfruits of all your crops;
10 then your barns will be filled to overflowing,
and your vats will brim over with new wine.
My dad never shouted it out on the mountain tops, but he responded in private
Proverbs 22:6 CSB – Start a youth out on his way;
even when he grows old he will not depart from it.
Be Humble…Because Jesus Was Humble
Philippians 2:1-8 CSB – If, then, there is any encouragement in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any affection and mercy,2 make my joy complete by thinking the same way, having the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. 4 Everyone should look not to his own interests, but rather to the interests of others.
5 Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus,
6 who, existing in the form of God,
did not consider equality with God
as something to be exploited.
7 Instead he emptied himself
by assuming the form of a servant,
taking on the likeness of humanity.
And when he had come as a man,
8 he humbled himself by becoming obedient
to the point of death—
even to death on a cross.

even when he grows old he will not depart from it.

John 13:34-35 NIV – “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
