January 26, 2025

Romans 12:1-2 CSB – Therefore, brothers and sisters, in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship.2 Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.
Why Read the Bible and Pray?
1. Scripture helps us to build our foundation
Ephesians 2:19-21 CSB – So, then, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with the saints, and members of God’s household20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone.21 In him the whole building, being put together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord.
Matthew 7:24-27 CSB – “Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.25 The rain fell, the rivers rose, and the winds blew and pounded that house. Yet it didn’t collapse, because its foundation was on the rock.26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and doesn’t act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.27 The rain fell, the rivers rose, the winds blew and pounded that house, and it collapsed. It collapsed with a great crash.”
2. Scripture helps us to align our heart w/ God
Luke 24:24-31 CSB – Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they didn’t see him.”25 He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken!26 Wasn’t it necessary for the Messiah to suffer these things and enter into his glory? ”27 Then beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted for them the things concerning himself in all the Scriptures.28 They came near the village where they were going, and he gave the impression that he was going farther.29 But they urged him, “Stay with us, because it’s almost evening, and now the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.30 It was as he reclined at the table with them that he took the bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them.31 Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him, but he disappeared from their sight.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 CSB – All Scripture is inspired by God , and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness17 so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
3. Scripture helps us to communicate w/ God
Psalm 1:1-3 CSB –
How happy is the one who does not
walk in the advice of the wicked
or stand in the pathway with sinners
or sit in the company of mockers!
2 Instead, his delight is in the Lord’s instruction,
and he meditates on it day and night.
3 He is like a tree planted beside flowing streams[a]
that bears its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
Whatever he does prospers.
When Praying:
1. Be Deliberate w/ heart, time, space
2. Be honest, open, and transparent
3. Set alarms
