January 12, 2025

2 Timothy 3:16-17 CSB – All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 2:15 CSB – Be diligent to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who doesn’t need to be ashamed, correctly teaching the word of truth.
Psalm 119:9-11 CSB – the ordinances of the Lord are reliable
and altogether righteous.
10 They are more desirable than gold—
than an abundance of pure gold;…
in keeping them there is an abundant reward.
Why Should We Value Studying the Bible?
1. Obedience—God commands us
2 Timothy 2:15 CSB – Be diligent to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who doesn’t need to be ashamed, correctly teaching the word of truth.
2 Peter 1:24 CSB – The grass withers, and the flower falls,
but the word of the Lord endures forever.
2 Peter 2:2-3 CSB – Like newborn infants, desire the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow up into your salvation, 3 if you have tasted that the Lord is good.
2. The Bible matures our faith
Romans 10:17 CSB – faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the message about Christ
Acts 17:10 CSB – The people here were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, since they received the word with eagerness and examined the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.
Isaiah 55:11 CSB – so my word that comes from my mouth will not return to me empty, but it will accomplish what I please and will prosper in what I send it to do.”
3. The Bible empowers us when tempted
Psalm 119:9-11 CSB –
How can a young man keep his way pure?
By keeping your word.
10 I have sought you with all my heart;
don’t let me wander from your commands.
11 I have treasured your word in my heart
so that I may not sin against you.
Genesis 4:7 CSB – But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you, but you must rule over it.”
Matthew 4:4 CSB – “It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.
Matthew 4:7 CSB – It is also written: Do not test the Lord your God.
Matthew 4:10 CSB – it is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve only him.
Matthew 4:11 CSB – Then the devil left him, and angels came and began to serve him.
4. The Bible helps you share Jesus
1 Peter 3:15 CSB – [be] ready at any time to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you.
Hope means hoping when things are hopeless, or it is no virtue at all…
As long as matters are really hopeful, hope is mere flattery or platitude; it is only when everything is hopeless that hope begins to be a strength. – GK Chesterton,
5. God’s Word is the key to experiencing the life you’ve always wanted
Psalm 1:1-3 CSB – Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.
