God Hears Us: Trusting in His Faithful Response
February 2, 2026
In the opening chapters of Exodus, we discover one of God’s most powerful testimonies of His faithfulness. The Israelites found themselves in desperate circumstances—enslaved, oppressed, and crying out under brutal taskmasters. Their prayers might have seemed unanswered for years, yet God was attentive all along.
God Hears
After generations of slavery, something remarkable happened. Exodus 2:23-24 tells us, “After a long time, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites groaned because of their difficult labor, and they cried out; and their cry for help ascended to God because of the difficult labor. So God heard their groaning, and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” Take a notice of the active verbs here – God heard, God remembered. Our prayers don’t fall on deaf ears or disappear into the void. God hears every cry.
God Acts
When God appeared to Moses at the burning bush, He declared, “I have observed the misery of my people in Egypt, and have heard them crying out because of their oppressors. I know about their sufferings, and I have come down to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians” (Exodus 3:7-8, CSB). God didn’t just hear—He saw, He knew, and He acted. The waiting wasn’t abandonment; it was preparation for deliverance.
This passage reminds us that God’s timing differs from ours. The Israelites endured generations of slavery before Moses arrived. Yet their suffering wasn’t forgotten. God was positioning the right person, in the right place, at the right time to accomplish His purposes. Every tear shed, every prayer whispered—God collected them all.
We can trust that when we pray, God hears us. He isn’t distant or indifferent. Like He did for the Israelites, He observes our affliction and knows our struggles intimately. Sometimes His response comes quickly; other times we wait. But waiting doesn’t mean He’s absent. Often, God is working behind the scenes, preparing both the deliverance and the deliverer.
Conclusion
When you feel unheard or wonder if your prayers matter, remember Exodus. God heard His people’s cries, He remembered His covenant, and He came down to rescue them. The same God who delivered Israel is the God we serve today. Your prayers reach His throne, and He is already at work on your behalf. Trust Him. He hears you, and He will act.
