Be Anchored by God’s Faithfulness

Gods-faithfulness

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning;

great is your faithfulness.” – Lamentations 3:22-23

This powerful truth spoken in Lamentations is something we can cling to during all of life’s seasons, especially the darkest storms we encounter. God’s love, faithfulness, compassion and mercy endure forever. When everything around us seems to be crumbling, His steadfast presence remains an unshakable anchor for our souls.

faithfulness

The prophet Jeremiah spoke about this in the midst of profound suffering as he watched Jerusalem descend into the anguish of famine and an exile. Even when judgment came due to Israel’s disobedience, God’s faithfulness prevailed for them. In fact, we can count on God’s same unwavering faithfulness no matter our circumstances. As the psalmist wrote, “Your faithfulness continues through all generations” (Psalm 119:90). God continues to extend His steadfast love to all who call on His name.

But God’s faithfulness isn’t just for when we obey Him and are “good.” Even when we stumble and stray, He remains faithful to forgive our sins and cleanse us from unrighteousness if we confess it to Him as John writes in 1 John 1:9. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” And praise God that even when our faith falters at times, He is faithful to strengthen us and not let us be tempted beyond what we can bear as Paul encourages us in 1 Corinthians 10:13. “No temptation has come upon you except what is common to humanity. But God is faithful; he will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation he will also provide the way out so that you may be able to bear it.”  Even if we are faithless, He remains faithful.

Conclusion

As Lamentations 3:23-23 says, God is faithful everyday and to the end. Each day, we can wake up to fresh outpourings of God’s great faithfulness. His mercies are truly new every morning, tailored to the needs of that particular day. He will equip us, nurture us, comfort us, and steady us with the power of His unfailing steadfast love. He will never abandon nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). Lets hold on to this truth in every season we encounter. It is through His faithfulness that we can journey through darkness unafraid, for His light is constantly breaking through.
