A Heart for Godly Wisdom

wisdom2

Where do you get wisdom from? When you need direction on what path to take, who do you turn to? What do you do?

In one of our Bible Reading Plans, we recently read 1 Chronicles 11. Here God appeared to King Solomon in a dream and offered to grant him whatever he desired. At this point in Solomon’s reign, he was newly appointed and very young. Because of this, Solomon requested godly wisdom. He could have asked for anything such as wealth, long life, war victories. However, in humility, Solomon asked for wisdom and discernment to properly govern God’s people (1 Kings 3:9).

Because of Solomon’s humility, God not only granted Solomon’s request, but He also gave him the riches and honor that Solomon did not ask for (1 Kings 3:12). God delights in a heart that seeks after His wisdom above worldly treasures.

In the same way, just like Solomon, when we face decisions, opportunities, and challenges, we need to seek God’s wisdom above all else. As Proverbs 9:10 says, “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” It is through intentional time of prayer, reading and apply the Bible to our life, and walking in obedience that we gain godly discernment to make choices honoring to Him. We need God’s wisdom to navigate us in life in a manner that brings Him glory.

Conclusion

Whether you are facing a difficult decision or just experiencing a regular, average day, Solomon’s example is a great thing to do on a daily basis. In humility, go before God and ask for His wisdom and seek His will. When we make seeking God’s wisdom our highest priority, He will freely give it to use as James 1:5 says. Have a heart for Godly wisdom daily.
