Unknown-2This past week our New Life: At the Movies series went retro!  Brett shared a message using the classic movie Back to the Future. If you missed any part of it, you can find the other movie messages here, watch the latest below, or during one of the rebroadcasts throughout the week.

In his message, Brett talked about making an IMPACT. Do you believe that you can make an impact and make a difference?  One of the main passages he used was Matthew 5:14-16 using the Message translation.  This is Jesus talking:

“Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand-shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.”

Questions to Ponder:

  1. What does it mean that we are to “be light”?
  2. What specific things does Jesus say that we can do with our “light”?
  3. How can letting your light shine “prompt people to open up with God”?
  4. How can you let your light shine today?

As we have learned in other parts of the Bible, God has given us talents and gifts and now we are being encouraged to let our light shine to others. Why would we do this? So that others may see, be open to and hopefully discover God for the first time.  What a great opportunity we have!
