Seeing Christmas Eve Services as an Opportunity for Life Change

December 16, 2024

Christmas Eve

Christmas is more than just a holiday we all celebrate. It is an opportunity to share the life-changing message of hope and love found in Jesus alone with those around us. As followers of Christ, we have a unique opportunity to invite friends, family, and neighbors to experience the true meaning of Christmas at one of the Christmas Eve services.

In 2 Corinthians 5:20, Paul reminds us that we are “Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.” This Christmas Eve, you are God’s ambassador, carrying an invitation that could change someone’s eternal trajectory.

But how do you do that? What can you do? Here are some practical ways to invite others to Christmas Eve services.

Ways to Invite to Christmas Eve Services

  1. Personal Invitation. Start with those closest to you. A heartfelt, genuine invitation can make all the difference. Remember Luke 14:23, where Jesus encourages us to “go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in.” This doesn’t mean pressuring people, but sincerely sharing the joy and hope you’ve found. People are generally more open to attending Christmas Eve services than they would a regular Church service.
  2. Christmas Eve Services Social Media. Most everyone has a social media channel they are on. Because of this, you can leverage your social media to spread the word. Share the Christmas Eve service information and which one you are attending. You can also include a personal message about why you are attending and invite others to attend with you. Psalm 96:3 encourages us to “declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.” You can take this image to the right and share it on your social media platforms inviting people to Christmas Eve services at New Life. You can also encourage people to watch online as well.
  3. Small Gestures of Kindness. Who in your community could use some love and kindness? Give out to those in need this year. In addition, invite them to join you at the Christmas Eve service you are attending. Matthew 5:16 tells us to “let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

What to Say

When inviting someone, focus on the experience, not just the event. Share why attending one of the Christmas Eve services matters to you. Explain that it’s more than a tradition—it’s a celebration of God’s incredible love, demonstrated by sending His Son to save humanity.

Overcoming Hesitation

It’s natural to feel nervous about extending an invitation to others. But Isaiah 41:10 reassures us: “Do not fear, for I am with you.” Your role is simply to invite; God handles the rest. Before you invite others, time to pray. Prayer to God to soften hearts and create opportunities. Remember, every invitation is a seed of potential transformation. While they may not be able to attend Christmas Eve services with you, maybe they will be open to attending Church with you down the road.

Challenge

Christmas Eve services present a great opportunity for you to share the love and hope of Christ to others. Prayerfully go before God and ask Him to lead you and see how He provides you with opportunities.
