Good Friday at New Life
March 21, 2016
This Friday is Good Friday. We are happy to offer two Online Good Friday services this year. They will be at 12 noon and 7:30 pm EST at https://watch.newlife.church.
But what is Good Friday? Why do we recognize this day as “good”?
Good Friday is the day we remember Jesus willingly suffered and died by crucifixion as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins (1 John 1:10). It is considered good because although the suffering and death of Christ was indeed terrible, it marked a dramatic culmination of God’s plan to save his people from their sins.
As it is written in the Bible,
“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” (Romans 3:23)
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
What we’ve earned for our sin is death. Not just physical death but eternal death from God, our Father. However, Christ paid that price. He took our place and died for our sins.
“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” (Isaiah 53:6)
It is a good Friday because Christ paid this price for us and on Easter he conquered death.
So this Friday, spend some time with us online (12 noon and 7:30 pm EST) for a reflective time with your friends and family. Dan Eno and Brennan Loveless will lead the worship and Joel Pazmino will share the message.
