Gravity Devotional

December 2, 2014

The At The Movies series closes out this year with the film Gravity starring Sandra Bulluck and George Clooney. Brett brought together Dr. Stone’s (Bulluck) experience and the story of the blind beggar found in Luke 18:35-43. Through the message (included below) Brett shows us that although we might not be physically blind, we could be spiritually blind. Brett shared five (5) causes of spiritual blindness that prevent us from truly experiencing God are:

  1. Suffering
  2. Sin
  3. Intellectual Pride
  4. Affluence
  5. Popular Beliefs

Despite our spiritual blindness to God, He constantly gives us opportunities to know Him and have a relationship with Him. For instance, take a few minutes to read Acts 10 and Matthew 4:18-22.

All these people came from different backgrounds both spiritually and economically. Each person involved could have chosen to stay in their blindness and not take the opportunity to learn more about Christ and grow in a relationship with Him. But they removed the potential blindness in their eye/lives and their lives were changed for the better because of it.

Where is your blindness to God and what do you need to do to remove those blinders so that you can experience life to the full with Christ?

John 1:12 β€œBut to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,”

John 10:10 β€œThe thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
