We have been going over spiritual disciplines in a recent Bible Study. For the first few days we have been talking about what it looks like to incorporate them into your daily life.

The hope of this study is to learn about and try each discipline each day as we talk about it. The reality is that while some spiritual disciplines will be easier to do than other, they will take time to fully understand what to do and how you can put each of them into practice. In this first week, as we prepared to incorporate these disciplines into our life, here are few things that will help you get started.

It starts with your heart

Incorporating spiritual disciplines into your life is a daily decision. Will you choose to follow Christ or not. By actively choosing nothing, you are choosing NOT to follow Christ. In order to be active in your faith by incorporating these spiritual disciplines into your daily life, it is a matter of the heart. It all starts with your heart and preparing your heart to embrace and practice these disciplines. To be preparing your heart today, read 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 and watch this devotional

Eliminate the distractions

There are so many things clawing craving our attention. Not only do we live busy lives, but our smart devices can be just as distracting. As Sean shares from Hebrews 12:1-2, let’s remove all the distractions from around us and focus on spending daily time with Christ. You can run towards Christ by surrounding yourself with other believers and incorporating these disciplines into your life.

Spiritual DisciplinesPut on the Armor of God

When you choose follow Christ and grow in your faith, you can bet that Satan is going to do whatever it takes to distract you and prevent you from following Jesus. There is a spiritual battle going on. That is why Tom Hamberger encourages us in this devotional to put on the full armor of God so you can be prepared to face the spiritual warfare that is going on around us. Take time to watch the video and read Ephesians 6:10-19.

Spiritual disciplines are helpful for believers to follow Christ and grow in their faith daily. But, it takes time. That is why it is so important to prepare your heart, eliminate the hinderances that can distract you and put on the full armor of God so you can withstand Satan’s attempts to prevent you from growing in your faith.
