It’s that time of year again…the time we set ourselves up for failure by making lofty goals and resolutions about how THIS YEAR will be different than all the others.

Sure, we always intend to follow through on goals that seem attainable, but considering that only 8% of all resolutions actually succeed, it seems like for one reason or another we are not able to complete them. Is it because we lack the will-power to accomplish them or could it be that the motive behind our resolution isn’t impactful enough. What am I talking about? Let me explain.

What if instead of looking to make goals that benefit solely us, we looked to make goals and resolutions that benefit ourselves AND, more importantly, others at the same time? What kind of goals could you set that could actually yield to not just a better “you” but to a better house and family life? A better work environment? A better social gathering situation? If we made goals like that would that make a difference?

I think they would. This past spring we went through a series entitled “MORE” based on the book written by Todd Wilson. It was about discovering God’s real plan and purpose for your life. It was a great series that caused people to discover God’s plan which has caused many to take a next step of faith that challenged them but also IMPACTED many others. Because, after all, God’s plan doesn’t go to serve us, it is designed to use us to make an IMPACT in others as well.

So this year, as you think through resolutions that you want to make this year, don’t limit yourself to things that will benefit just you. Look at things that will leave a lasting impact in the lives of others as well. If you are having a hard time figuring out what kinds of goals to set or resolutions to make, here are 2 simple things you can do:

  • Seek God for wisdom. James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”. If you are having a hard time setting up a goal or resolution that will make an IMPACT seek God and let him guide you.
  • Go through/Review MORE. As mentioned above, the “MORE” series was a great opportunity for people to discover their personal mission in life. If you haven’t gone through it, now is your chance, simple click this link. If you did go over it, maybe it is time for a refresher and review it again. As you will discover, the more we know about ourselves the better impact we can have on others.

This year has the potential to be the BEST year of your life where you make significant strides. It CAN be different from every other year when you take a look at it not just from a, “I want to set this goal” to “I want to have a lasting impact” from this year forward. It is possible. It can be done. Especially when God is there guiding you through your eternal purpose.

What do you think? What resolution can you make this year that will have a lasting, eternal impact not just in your life but in the lives of others? Share below.
