John 8:12 ESV – Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

How does Jesus’ light bring life?

  • He Extinguishes The Darkness
  • He Exposes Our Sin
  • He Exemplifies How We’re To Live

He Extinguishes The Darkness

John 1:5 ESV – The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

John 3:19-20 NIV – This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.

He Exposes Our Sin

1 Corinthians 15:9 – “I am the least of the apostles”

Ephesians 3:8 – “I am less than the least of all God’s people”

1 Timothy 1:15 CSB – This saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”—and I am the worst of them.

James 4:1 NIV 84 – “What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you?”

Hebrews 4:12 NIV – For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword,it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?”

John 8:34-36 ESVJesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave[a] to sin. 35 The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

He Exemplifies How We’re To Live

Matthew 5:14-16 ESV“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that[a] they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

2 Corinthians 4:4 ESV – In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

Ephesians 5:8 NIV – For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light
