Luke 9:23-27 CSB – Then He said to them all, “If anyone wants to follow after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of me will save it. For what does it benefit someone if he gains the whole world, and yet loses or forfeits himself? For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in His glory and that of the Father and the holy angels. Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God.”

The Mishnah, a collection of authoritative writings that captured the Jewish oral traditions gives us the picture of what it meant to follow

Avot 1:4, Mishnah – “Let thy house be a meeting house for the wise; and powder thyself in the dust of their feet; and drink their words with thirstiness.”

BIG IDEA | You were made to follow Jesus so closely that you would be covered in His dust from His feet!

Ephesians 5:25-27 CSB – Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her to make her holy, cleansing her with the washing of water by the word. He did this to present the church to Himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or anything like that, but holy and blameless.

Ephesians 5:22-23 CSB – Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord, because the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of the body.

Ephesians 5:32-33 CSB – This mystery is profound, but I am talking about Christ and the church. To sum up, each one of you is to love his wife as himself, and the wife is to respect her husband.

Matthew 14:31 CSB – “Immediately Jesus reached out his hand, caught hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”

John 15:16 CSB – “You did not choose Me, but I chose you.”
