New Life is going through the book of Genesis right now and there is so many great lessons to be learned. If you are not currently reading through Genesis right now, you can still start! Just text “Genesis” to 703-454-5990 or join the Facebook Group to discuss these and much more here.

As we walk thought Genesis, here are 4 lessons learned from the first 7 chapters of Genesis.

God is a creator and designed you perfectly

In Genesis 1-2, God created the whole world, animals of all kinds, vegetation, and man and woman. He is a creator who designed the world perfectly and humans to rule over all of it. There was order to it all. It was not a mistake or accident God created things as he did.

We, as people, are not an accident. God knew you before creation and formed you as you are. You were created with a purpose. While we may struggle with that purpose from time time, the more we can seek God, we can know and understand his purpose for our lives. Watch the video devos about Genesis 1 here and 2 here.

When we take our eyes off of God, temptation easily creeps in

In Genesis 3 we see sin enter the world. Satan deceived Eve and then Adam sinned ate the fruit after that. While we know Eve saw that the fruit was good and she desired wisdom, Adam simply took Eve’s word for it and decided to join in. Their eyes were on the fruit and their ears were opened. Their eyes were not focused on God. When we encounter temptation, we need to keep our eyes focused on God for his guidance and direction so that we experience a life of purpose and hope. God asks for our best

In Genesis 4, we read about Cain and Able. Able brought sacrifices to God that were his best, but Cain did not. Because God appreciated Able’s sacrifices more than Cain’s, Cain decided to kill his brother. In Genesis 4:6-7 God says to Cain, “Why are you furious? And why do you look despondent? If you do what is right, won’t you be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you, but you must rule over it.”

Bring your best to God. Give back to him what he has blessed you with. Proverbs 3:9-10 says, “Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.” Let’s honor God with the blessings he has provided us with and give back today. Be known for walking with God

When we meet Noah in Genesis 6:9 it says this, “Noah was a righteous man, blameless among his contemporaries; Noah walked with God.” These are the first words to describe Noah and this was why Noah was chosen to enter the ark with his family and not anyone else. We can choose to be known for a lot of things, but are you known for walking with God? Is your life representative of walking with God and being obedient to his leading? Choose to walk with God daily and be known as a person who does that and see where He leads you. You can watch the Genesis 6 devotional here.
